Last Will and Testament and Codicil of William Abijah Poole

In the name of God Amen. I William Pool of the State and County aforesaid calling to mind the mortality of man and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die and now being of sound and disposing mind, I do hearby make ordain and constitute this my last will and testament hearby revoking all Former wills made by me.

Principally and first of all I give and commend my soul to almighty God whogave it, and my body to the earth in a decent and Christian burial, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I Shall ______ the same again by the mighty power of God, and as touching such worldly estate as it has pleased God to bless me with I do hearby dis___ of the same in the following manner.

1st I wish the payments of all my Just debts.
2nd I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Kiziah all my Estate both ___ and personal during her natural life or widowhood, accept such property as is hearafter disposed od and at or after her death or marriage to be divided between my children& grandchildren namely >(Sarah oKellys children) James S., Benjamin B., >(Elisabeth Andersons children) Zillah, John H., George W., William J., Mary Ann, Nancy C., Elijah C., Elisha M., Peter S., & Eliza J. Pool.
Deducting from each share the s____l amounts before _____ which will appear by sufferance? to a book of Distribution >kept by myself of amounts advanced by me to & for my children a charge? deducting from the children of Sarah oKelly & Elisabeth Anderson s___l sums previously advanced to the said Sarah & Elisabeth
3rd I give and bequeath to my son-in-law George W. Conally and his wife Martha the tract of land they now live on containing sixty acres more or less this together with what they have before received? >this to be there[sic] full portion of my Estate reserving? To myself the Title of said Tract of Land until a full settlement of my Estate allowing the said Conally the use and benefit of the Land until a final settlement of my estate then? the title to ____ in the said Conally and his heirs.
4th
It is my decision that my children as they come of age or marry that they receive? Such property as my older children has received at a fair valuation and if at any time from the increase of property it should become two[sic] expensive to the Estate, I leave it discretionary with my executors to make such distribution as may seem best for the Interest of the estate by division or sale.
5th I give and bequeath to my son Benjamin B. Pool all that Tract or parcel of land whearon[sic] he now lives containing one hundred & sixty acres more or less granted? To Joel Mabry bounds as follows beginning at a dead? Oak corner thence N34, W17, then to a pine corner thence S65, W20, then to a post? Oak corner thence N55, W26, then to a chestnut corner thence S35, W opposite to SW corner of a tract of land granted to A.Slayton? thence along the westward and northward line to the southward end of the first mentioned line thence along said line to the beginning corner at the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars which is to be deducted from his part in a final settlement reserving to myself and estate them the right & title to ____ in the said Benjamin B. Pool his heir and _____ state allowing the said Benjamin B. and family the use and benefit of said land until said settlement.
6th I also give and bequeath to my son George W. Pool the tract or parcel of land whearon he now lives containing ninety eight Acres more or less bounded as follows beginning at a black oak corner on the old original line of the land I now live on thence S.E. a conditional line to a post oak corner thence S.W. a Hickory corner thence South E. to the originall[sic] line to a white oak corner thence the original line to the beginning corner as a part of his Legacy at the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars.
7th and lastly I do hearby constitute and appoint my beloved wife Kiziah Pool and my son George W. Pool my Executors to this my last will and testament in witness whearof I have hearunto Set my hand and seal this second day of December 1846

Sign Seal disclose and publish my last will and testament in presence of AF Ash, Thomas Bush, & William Turk who signed the said will and Testament as witnesses, and whereas, I am dis_______ of __________ and changing the second and third articles or sections of the foregoing will. It is my decision and will that my daughter Martha Conally have an equal share or part in a final settlement of my estate with my children as named in the second section of the foregoing will
I therefore make and publish this codicil to said will
November 26th 1849

She if? and produced before the court the last will and testament and codicil annexed of said Wm Poole _____ and witnesses of said will and codicil to wit- Wm Turk, Thos Bush, which witnesses being sworn d___ and ___ that they saw Wm Poole
the testator sign, seal, declare, and publish the instrument now presented as his last will and testament and codicil freely voluntarily[sic] and of his own accord and without any compulsion or influencing whatever that at the time of the execution of the said will and codicil said testator was of sound and disposing mind and memory that depen_____ signed said will and codicil as witnesses in the presence of the testator and at his special instance and request and in the presence of each other and saw A.F. Ash sign the will likewise and saw Eli T. Wilmont? Sign the codicil likewise said witness A.F. Ash having died before said codicil was made.

48. William Mack

Dr. WILLIAM MACK who was twice president of Jackson College was born in Flushing New York July 29, 1807, attended noted schools, among them the Theological Seminary at Princeton, New Jersey for three years. After serving other communities, he moved to Columbia in 1843 and later was pastor of the Zion Church west of Columbia for two years 1862 & 1863. The latter part of his life he spent in evangelical work in Middle Tennessee where he was greatly beloved. He died at the home of his son, the Rev. J. B. Mack, Columbia South Carolina, January 9, 1879.

56. William Newton Blake

William Newton was the second son and the only child who remained in Greenwood. His home was on the east side of Spring Street and when the house was dismantled in 1967, a two-story log cabin was found as the core of the house. That cabin was acquired by the Greenwood County Historical Society. It may have been built by Andrew Logan the original settler. They had 11 children to live to maturity.
